Secession in Georgia and Alexander Stephen's Role

The state of Georgia seceded on March 23, 1861 after a three month long convention, they also made their first new constitution since 1798. Georgia seceded for many reasons like slavery, states rights, freedom, economic, and also because of their location (in the middle of all the confederate states) and the person who influenced secession the most was Alexander Stephen . Before the war Alexander Stephens' served as a state legislator for seven years where he advanced his knowledge in politics and enhanced his people skills which proved very useful when it came to convincing Georgia to secede. Through out the three months that Georgia was debating whether to secede or not Alexander Stephen would go into public and give speeches that would frighten and persuade the citizens to approve the secession. After Georgia left the union Alexander Stephen was promoted to the Vice President of the Confederacy, they made him Vice President because of his political skills and also to make the people like him who were uneasy about succession confident
